The GeoServer 1.2.3 WFS server ships with a minimal configuration of several shapefiles and a couple of validation tests.

If you are updating an existing installation remember to back up your webapps/geoserver directory

Install Java and extentions:

  1. Install JDK1.4.2 On Unix, set the JAVA_HOME variable. On Windows, check to make sure the JDK installation set JAVA_HOME correctly.
  2. (Optional) For WMS support install Java Advanced Imaging 1.1.2 and the Image I/O extension, see the 1. WMS page for more information.

Windows Installation:

  1. Download geoserver-1.2.3.exe
  2. Run geoserver-1.2.3.exe

Zip Installation with Jetty:

  1. Jetty (open source, free to non-commercial users) is included as a Servlet container in geoserver-1.2.3-bin.zip # Download, unzip and run.

Servlet Container installation:

  1. Check GeoServer 1.2.0rc1 page to see a list of tested containers.
  2. Install your Servlet Container according to its documentation, Jetty (open source, free to non-commercial users) is included, you may perfer Tomcat (open source, free), or Resin (open source, free)
  3. Download geoserver-1.2.3-war.zip and extract the war file.
  4. Install geoserver.war in your Servlet Container's webapps directory.
    If you are updating an existing installation remember to back up your webapps/geoserver directory.
  5. Update the GeoServer 1.2.0rc1 page - this is one of the best ways to help the GeoServer community.
