IRC Developer Meetings

GeoServer has IRC meetings as needed on an approximately weekly basis. Many of the developers are often on the channel at other times as well, if you need some quick help.

The meeting is on Tuesdays at 19:00 UTC. You can click on the previous link to get the time in your local time zone.

UTC Rome Victoria (Canada) New York (USA)
Tues 19:00 Tue 9:00 PM Tue 12:00 noon Tue 3:00 pm

Depending on attendance, the meetings will be adjusted. Everyone is welcome to attend, but the meetings are largely targeted for developers.
You can find the meeting at:

  • Server - Pick one from Freenode Servers
  • Channel - #geoserver
  • Port - 6667

Step-by-step:

  1. Open your IRC client
  2. Type: /attach freenode
  3. Wait for it to connect
  4. Type: /join #geoserver

For the time being, the format of the meetings will go as follows:

  1. Agenda items are proposed (2 min)
  2. Each person will say what they worked on the previous week and what they are working on this week (5 min)
  3. Each person says who's help they will need in the coming week, or any other resources (5 min)
  4. The proposed agenda items are coverd (30 min)

If you cannot attend the whole meeting, please just attend the first 10 minutes to we can all get an update on what you are working on.

IRC Clients

Although there are many IRC clients, here we list three that many of the GeoServer developers use:

  • Pidgin: a multiplatform, multiprotocol IM with IRC capabilities;
  • ChatZilla!: a Firefox plugin and pure IRC client;
  • IRC@Work: a pure web based IRC client, that you can use without installing any program, and that allows you to bypass firewall limitations that might exist at your workplace.
